Pilot Freeze Dryers

Vikumer BFD Series Pilot Freeze Dryers BFD-5Slim BFD-5 BFD-10

Freeze drying systems for industry laboratories and professional research centers

Vikumer’s BFD series pilot-scale freeze dryers are designed for professional laboratories and R&D institutes for advanced research and small scale production. They have the similar technical features and system performance to the commercial units, allowing user precisely control and monitor the freeze drying process, as well as acquisite the drying data.

The BFD pilot production freeze drying machines are fully assembled and strictly quality and performance tested before shipment. User can quickly put it into service after connect electric and compressed air (in some case).

How to Choose

The BFD series pilot freeze dryers are designed to satisfy ‘phase 1’ in the entire FD development stage (feasibility study, cycle development, process optimization, small volume trial, pilot test, technology transfer preparation etc.). All BFD models share the same control philosophy and process flexibility, based on the pilot stage sub-phases, you are easily choosing the right model with following advises.

  • Early-stage development and feasibility testing, choose BFD-5Slim.
  • Cycle development, process optimization and small trials, choose BFD-5.
  • Cycle development, process optimization and pilot trials, choose BFD-10.
  • Scale-up and technology transfer, choose BFD-20.

For bulk drying, the material depth in trays should according to technological requirement and total water in raw material should less than ice condenser capacity.

  • If the fill depth in the trays is shallow, increasing the number of shelves is feasible to meet the batch loading requirement and maximize the system capacity.
  • Conversely, if the fill depth is deep, reducing the number of shelves is recommended to avoid exceeding the ice condenser capacity.

For vial drying, the vial size determines the loading capacity and limits the number of shelves.

  • Vials height (with plug) should less than shelf spacing.
  • Vials arrangement in trays influence the loading quantity (triangular pattern typically load more than rectangular pattern)
  • Your laboratory space restricts.
  • Need a standard unit or clean room config.
  • CIP or not
  • SIP or not (VHP or steam sterilization)
  • Detailed URS and raw material features are helpful, for example:
    • If the machine is used for bulk products with freezing points typically above -25C (such as food, nutraceuticals, herbs, and extracts), BFD models with a -45C condenser temperature are available, which are well suited for these applications and offer higher energy efficiency.
    • If your raw material contains organic solvents, our -120C condenser version machine is suitable.
  • The more information you share, the more suitable solution we can recommend.
